Fees You Might Pay When Applying for a Marriage-Based Green Card

Marriage Green Card Costs

Boundless Immigration costs $500, which includes everything here. You even get an independent immigration lawyer, for no extra fee, who can answer all of your questions and review your final application packet before sending it off.

All U.S. Family Visa applicants are required to pay certain fees to the government, depending on their situation, which are outlined below. Applicants may also need to pay for a medical exam.

The cost depends on whether the spouse seeking the green card (i.e. the “beneficiary”) is living in the U.S. or abroad.

Spouse Living in the United States: At least $1,960 (government fees plus medical exam)

Spouse Living Abroad: At least $1,200 (government fees)

For a detailed summary of these government fees and other possible costs, see below.

Government Fees

First, there are the fees you must pay directly to the government—in most cases that’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), unless otherwise noted.

Spouse Living in the United States

  • Marriage relationship form (I-130): $535
  • Green card application form (I-485): $1,140
  • Financial support form (I-864): $0
  • Work permit application form (I-765): $0
  • Travel permit application form: $0
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo): $85

Total: $1,760

Spouse Living Abroad

  • Marriage relationship form (I-130): $535
  • Financial support form (I-864): $120
  • State Department application processing fee: $325
  • USCIS Immigrant Fee: $220

Total: $ 1,200

Other Fees

Beyond direct government fees, there are other costs worth keeping in mind:

  • Translation services: If your green card application package includes any documents in a language other than English, you must also include a translation of each document, certified as accurate by the translator. The cost of these services will vary (for example, a certified translation of a one-page birth certificate might range between $50-100).
  • Document fees: When going to your final interview (either in the U.S. or at an embassy or consulate abroad), you will be asked to bring original copies of your supporting documents (for example, your marriage certificate). Certain official documents may require a government fee to obtain.

Only for a Spouse Living in the United States:

  • Medical exam: The required medical examination from a USCIS-approved physician generally costs between $200-300.
  • Vaccinations: Should your medical exam require it, you may need to update your vaccinations before receiving your completed medical examination report.
