Product Designer

Boundless is looking for a product designer to expand on Boundless’ offerings, improve the Boundless service for immigrants, and grow with the company.

In this role, you will:

  • Explore the complexities of the immigration space with immense empathy. Come up with design solutions to meet the needs of our users.
  • Create design solutions that effectively embody product functions and brand identity. This includes the design and production of digital interfaces, services, as well as print based communications, et al.
  • Work with a team of designers and developers to expand and evolve the design language of an early stage startup.
  • Communicate design solutions effectively to engineers and product managers. Support engineers with design rationale, annotations and assets in the product development process.
  • Ideate and execute in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

We are looking for:

  • High-caliber product design skills. A deep understanding of user experience design, interaction modeling, typography, composition, and layout principles. Intimate knowledge of current digital design trends and conventions.
  • Experience conceiving and iterating product features based on data, business strategy, as well as your own designerly intuition.
  • 4+ years of experience as a designer in the digital product space.
  • Design experience demonstrated through a portfolio of multiple projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphics design, interaction design, fine arts, or a related design discipline.
  • Fluent in digital design tools, such as Sketch, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong collaborator with designers and non-designers alike.
  • Mature organizational skills. Excellent self-starter. Able to be effective working both independently and in teams.

  • Cross-cultural personal experience, or experience designing for diverse user groups.

Customer Success

We are looking for a great customer success team member who believes that the right combination of technology and people can achieve this mission. The ideal candidate would be familiar with family-based immigration, from immigrant visa processing through naturalization. If you’re ready to join a fast-growing technology startup that’s changing the world, we are looking for you!

In this role, you will:

  • Interact with customers to address their general questions about Boundless and support them through their immigration journey.
  • Contribute to our customer knowledge base and support content.
  • Manage and update content to ensure consistency with new content and forms/regulatory updates.
  • Write blogs and resource articles that will help address common, general immigration questions.
  • Research immigration laws and potential changes in policy to provide insights to the team.
  • Serve as an in-house “customer,” regularly using and testing our software to provide feedback to the development team.
  • Help develop customer testimonials and case studies.

For this role, you bring:

  • Empathy. You will be communicating with families during their most stressful moments. Intuitively understand what to say to encourage and delight our customers.
  • Knowledge. Hands-on experience with different types of family-based immigration. Although this is not a paralegal or legal assistant position, prior experience in either of those roles is strongly preferred.
  • Organization. You are meticulous about keeping records and have a deep desire to cross off checklists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Your friends tell you you’re magical at explaining complex topics.
  • Proactiveness and self-motivation. We are a small team moving quickly. You enjoy identifying improvements and making them happen without significant oversight and guidance.
  • Curiosity. You are always interested in learning new information and skills.
  • Multilingualism. You can clearly explain complex concepts in at least one non-English language, both verbally and in writing.

Software Engineer

We are looking for great engineers to form the foundation of our engineering team for years to come. If you want to create a meaningful impact on the world with technology; if you share our belief that bringing empathy to our customers, our product, and our team will bring success; and if you are always on the lookout to get better at what you do, Boundless is the right place for you.

In this role, during your first month you will:

  • Be assigned a mentor, who will pair with you most of the time as you learn about our codebase, our deployment, and our process.
  • Work with your mentor and our design team to ship a complete feature for our mobile or web application.
  • Periodically join our customer support lines and customer feedback sessions to hear directly from immigrants about their concerns, problems, and frustrations in their immigration journey.

Within three months, you will:

  • Look at usage metrics, measure the effectiveness of your feature, and make adjustments to improve its effectiveness.
  • Make a mistake! You will then run through our operational process to recover from the mistake, have a blameless learning session about the issue, and implement action items for us not to repeat the same mistake in the future.
  • Work with your manager to identify three personal development goals for yourself and identify concrete steps to reach these goals.
  • Continue pairing with other team members until you are comfortable working on your own in our codebase.

Within a year, you will:

  • Have an innate understanding of our customers, so that you will be able to identify an important problem, come up with ideas to solve this problem, and work with others in the engineering, design, marketing, and customer success teams to solve this problem.
  • Contribute to our infrastructure, automation, and testing to ensure a sustainable work environment for our team.
  • Help the newer members of our ever-growing team have an ever-improving onboarding and learning experience.
  • Play an essential role in building an inclusive and high-performing culture at Boundless.

About us:

We are a small (for now) team of designers and engineers working out of Pioneer Square, Seattle. We work with Rails, React, Redux, and React Native. The only requirement for this position is to be able to code in JavaScript or Ruby at production quality. We believe passion for learning always beats experience.

Senior Editor

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Editor who is motivated by the opportunity to help millions of people who seek confidence in their immigration journey. Someone who understands that the immigration system is complicated and scary, with an endless maze of forms, acronyms, and government agencies to navigate—and who can craft the right language to demystify this system.

The Senior Editor will be responsible for helping to develop compelling content ideas, manage the editorial calendar with skill and precision, draft and edit content until it shines, and maintain a consistent and trustworthy voice across all of our content.

This is initially a part-time independent contractor role, with flexible hours and location, and the potential to grow into a full-time role. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Edit (and occasionally draft) long-form articles that provide exceptionally clear, helpful, and jargon-free information about how the U.S. immigration system works.
  • Edit (and more frequently draft) communications collateral, including press releases, story pitches, op-eds, and blog posts.
  • Ensure consistent style across Boundless content, and help continuously improve the Boundless Style Guide.
  • Manage the editorial calendar, guiding content through review and workflow processes, to ensure on-time delivery of flawless content.
  • Collaborate with the Boundless team on story ideas, based on both breaking news and longer-lead deadlines.
  • Provide timely, consistent, and constructive feedback to writers and other contributors.

We are looking for:

  • Considerable experience as a writer and editor for consumer media outlets.
  • Proven ability to develop content, with clarity and empathy, across a variety of forms and in a variety of voices.
  • Exceptional organizational skills within a fast-paced environment.
  • The drive to work independently, take initiative, and anticipate needs.
  • Obsessive attention to detail across a diversity of tasks, including but not limited to copy-editing and line-editing.
